Starry Night, Artist, Me

Okay, yes I have to give Van Gogh credit, of course, but I did this pastel version of "Starry Night" last night.  We had 1 hour to create our masterpiece and this was mine. (Don't laugh ;) I'm going to matte and frame it. This quick pick really does not make the colors burst, and twinkle as pastels have that *magic* touch.

Simply Organizing

"To what to my wondering eyes did appear, but some little tin pails with numbers so darn close to my house number that I had to keep searching in the shelves and.... YAHTZEE!!" P.S. Pay no attention to the ugly brown computer hutch, or the starfish dust covering the hutch so nicely.  The hutch will be leaving.  But!  It works for now until I find a CHEAP way to either make it white, or find a nice white table/desk that is super dee-duper cheap! ;)  Enjoy your Friday~

A Room With A View

I had to take a picture of my yard outside my kitchen window.  We have a HUGE rhody that got a bit damaged in an ice storm that we had 2 years ago.  But, it is the biggest I've ever seen!  It's bursting with purple/pink flowers.
I also took one of my herb garden that is in need of some weeding!  Have fun ;)  Also, looking for galvanized pails and tubs for some chalkboard paint.

And isn't this cottage really cute!  I could move right in!  You could too.  It's for sale in Moody, Maine!  My husband took a picture of it as we were riding down the road.  I love the color...I have a thing for green.

IDEAS Dance in my head!!!~Ribbons, Cottage Home Shoppe in Maine,...

Photo above from Country Living Magazine.  What could I do with ribbon?...Hmmm....I know it's on sale for $1.00 at Michael's and I've even found some for FREE at the recycle center.  Images of galvanized pails and flowers from the garden, maybe even some chalkboard paint, dance in my head!
Below middle image with green hutch is from Country Living Magazine.  I love that hutch and how the white contrasts with the green.  Beautiful!  The two images on the waaay left and waaay right are from the shop Cottage Home Furniture in Cape Neddick, Maine on Rte. 1  This shop is very, very (too) close to my parent's summer place.  Make sure you stop on by this shop, if you are ever in the York area, or visit their website.  You will LOVE it!!!  Oh, and you have to check out the TWIG CANOPY BED below...

Just another reason to visit Cottage Home Furniture!
This bed is soooo pretty!

Happy Birthday to ME! May 7th!

 ~Celebrating my B-Day in Maine last year~
I have to admit it, I LOVE my birthday!  Always have...and tomorrow it's my 34th birthday, YAY!  As I reflect on another year gone by (sappy I know), but I think about all that I'm so thankful for, things I've done, new goals that are being set, and for the love of my husband, son, and two wonderful parents.
On another note, I finally found a spot for my milk glass, which I will post soon and I'm in search of a white cake pedestal.  I'm going to be posting about table centerpieces because I'm stumped!  If you have any good table centerpiece ideas please let me know.

Flea Market Finds Me!

Today, I found so many wonderful, pretty, simple, and cheap things at the Charlton Flea Market and at a little Antique barn on the way home.  I paid a total of $10.00 dollars for all of my items today!  That's right! $10.00!  I took this shelf thingy above and did this...
I painted it "chippy dippy white."  This shelf thingy was in an old antique barn and I got it!  Alyssa vs. expensive...Alyssa WINS!  Next items...
Ohh la,la  a cake pedestal and a fluted pan displayed as...
                                                  This ;)
Alyssa finds the dollar bin and scores again!
And my love of the day is...

             All of these....ahhhhh....what a day! :)

Below a sneak peak of my friend's Cape Cod room.  I love how she displays everything on this old, old bookshelf that her dad repainted for her.  The map was in her grandparent's Cape house. Everything on those shelves has a meaning.  Don't ya love it?!

Saving Grace!

Meet Grace!  Isn't she great?!  She has been living in my basement for too long! Grace scared my husband when I had a dress on her and placed her right inside the doorway.  He kept thinking there was a robber there waiting to hit him over the head with a cast iron frying pan.  Okay, those weren't his exact words, but something like that... So, I need to do something with Grace!  Maybe some scarves?  Any ideas?  I got her soooo cheap at a "shabby chic" store in Maine.  I negotiated back and forth for this gal!

Breaking Up Is Hard To Do

Weeds!  Weeds! and more WEEDS!  They are driving me bonkers and it's only April. I hate breaking them up and pulling them out!
But, owell I love all of the plants in our yard.  Edging of beds, mulch, and all of that good stuff still needs to be done, but here are some of our gardens.  My husband did all of the work below and yes, that is a putting green.  I did the herbs and that garden up above is the project that Will and I are working on.

Edgartown & Menemsha Inn-Vineyard Living! Dreaming of the Seaside

My dream is to have a little cottage by the sea.  The one above is too big for us, but I love the cedar shingles and this place is a summer rental, if you're interested.
Someday...I imagine smelling the salty sea air mixed with the sweetness of the Rosa Rugosa all while snuggling in with my hubby.  Someday this will happen because we are working towards it!  But, until we sign for a cottage on the dotted line...(Imagine our signatures here)
here are some inside scenes of this home and the Menemsha Inn on the Vineyard. I just love the room designs! Enjoy ;)
Give me a light blanket, a pillow, and see ya later!

Cottage Coastal Room

Okay, so here it is sooo far.  Yay!! I've made huge progress and am so happy at the way it's turning out. Remember I am designing on a dime here.  Oh, and   remember the ugly door?  It still has the ugly door knob, but I am hopeful that I will find the perfect replacement at a flea market this Spring, or somewhere... I used chalkboard paint on a canvas and wrote the places that are full of memories for my hubby and I.  The pictures are quotes and all of the frames were from $1.00 to $3.00.  The big "C" was cheap at $4.00.  The picture of the little cottage is actually made by my illustrator and is a little sea cottage from my picture book that will be coming out.  I'm not done with my collage, but it's coming along!
So, it's almost complete!  I would love to here what you think.  ;)Alyssa
